Bistandstorget (The Norwegian Development Network) invites researchers and organizations working with Latin America to a joint meeting to exchange experiences and discuss how they might cooperate.

On January 29 NorLARNet and NOREF (Norwegian Peacebuilding Centre) will host a meeting where representatives of Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NGOs and researchers associated with NorLARNET will discuss the implications of key trends in Latin America for Norwegian Latin America policy.

Many countries in the region have experienced periods of poor public security. How does this, and the governmental responses to it, affect the human rights situation in these countries?
Adrian Bergmann, who has been involved in work related to the gangs ("maras") in Central America for three years, talked about what motivates the gang members, what are their impacts, and which are the most constructive ways to meet the challenges they pose.
