Double book launch on Norwegian research and ideas about Latin America

The books "Norwegian Social Thought on Latin America" and "Norge i Latin-Amerika: Forbindelser og forestillinger" (Norway in Latin America: Connections and ideas) will be presented by the editors.

Language: English

In cooperation with Mexicult, and as part of the opening event of the Mexican Cultural Festival, NorLARNet invites to the launch of two books written by Norwegian researchers. The books will be presented by their respective editors.

Benedicte Bull, professor at the University of Oslo and leader of NorLARNet,
will present the book "Norwegian Social Thought on Latin America":

Is there such a thing as a Norwegian social science perspective on Latin America? Invited by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences, twelve Norway-based scholars have contributed to shed light on Norwegian research and writing on the region from before social sciences were really established in Norway, and up to our days. The book is edited by Benedicte Bull, University of Oslo. See the book at CLACSO’s web site (touch the "pdf"-button for the complete text).

Leiv Marsteintredet, associate professor at the University of Bergen,
will present the book  "Norge i Latin-Amerika: Forbindelser og forestillinger":

The anthology brings together a number of Norway's leading Latin American researchers to analyze Norway's historical and current relations with Latin America and what ideas we create and convey about Latin America.

The 12 chapters ask questions such as: What relations does Norway have with Latin America? What has created and shaped our relations with the region? What ideas and images do we create/have about Latin America? And to what extent and in what way do our ideas about Latin America depend on our relations with the region? The topics in the book deal with Norwegian emigration, foreign policy, development cooperation, peace negotiations, trade and economy, research, mission, journalism, travel literature and tourism.

The book is expected by November and will be available by Open Access.
